What is the Service Coordinator Program?
The Service Coordinator Program is designed to provide basic social services that help public housing residents remain stable in their housing, stay current on their rent, raise their children effectively, and pursue opportunities to improve their quality of lives and living conditions.
What Services does the program provide?
The Service Coordinator Program offers 6 basic services to Public Housing residents:
- Job Search/ Placement
- Job Training
- Resume Writing
- Job Retention Classes
- Basic Reading and Math Refresher
- GED Preparation
- Computer Training
- English as Second Language classes
- Technical School or College Enrollment
- Money Management
- Credit Counseling
- Financial Literacy Classes
- Basic Life Necessities
- Work/School Clothing
- Medical/Dental Care
- Homeownership Counseling
- Elderly Services
- Health Care Referrals
- Long-term Care Prevention
- Health and Wellness (Nutrition Classes)
What is the Service Coordinator’s Role?
The Service Coordinator provides informal counseling, plans educational programs, coordinates employment, education, and voluteers opportunities, establishes linkages with outside service agencies, and negotiates affordable services as needed. The Service Coordinator also educates residents on available services, develops contacts with service providers and agencies for resident referrals, and monitors provision of services.
The Services Coordinator works with the Housing Manager to provide and maintain affordable, descent and safe housing. They work together to assist residents to maintain lease compliancy, empower residents to be independent, and assist in building solidarity within the public housing community.
