Thanks to Major Walker’s dedication and commitment she was able to develop a partnership with Sherwin-Williams to bring their Homework Painter Training Program to Housing Authority of Bowling Green, the first program in the state of Kentucky.

The Sherwin-Williams Homework Painter Training Program was created to support communities through training individuals the proper way to paint a home. The skills gained by the student gives them an advantage in finding work with painting contractors. The program is a two week program with three days of classroom where the students learn the basics of how paint is made and how the tools of the trade are made, as well as how to use them. After the classroom the students have five days of hands on painting, working on a project in their local community. Sherwin-Williams takes on all finances for the two week program spending approximately 45,000 dollars on average.

Sherwin-Williams offers two training sessions each year in the cities they collaborate with. The HABG had an enormous turn out, filling the first session in June and July of 2009 rapidly with 22 participants and as well as the next session that will be held again in September 2009.
