Family Self-Suffciency
The Housing Authority of Bowling Green Family Self-Sufficiency Program provides case management for families working toward self-sufficiency. The goal of the Family Self-Sufficiency Program is to provide assistance to public housing residents to move beyond their circumstance to become more productive citizens of the community. Assistance includes: housing assistance, case management, and supportive services such as referrals to government and private organizations that provide services for very low-income families.
2008-2009 Spotlight
- 2008 Family Self-Sufficiency Program of the Year Award from the Louisville Field Office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
- 48 participants completed the FSS enrollment and referred for or receiving support services
- 40 participants active in employment activities through training programs, part-time employment or job placement opportunities
- 33 participants active in money management training with five participants actively managing savings accounts
- 29 participants actively enrolled in education programming including ESL, literacy development, GED preparation, and post-high school education
- Multiple basic life necessities projects were presented to assist participants including childcare, emergency, Thanksgiving and Christmas food donation, and transportation
